loot scaling?!
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Loot_scaling
i've been told over and over that if you take heros it effects droprate someway. but looking at this does loot scaling effect the number of golds or ecto i get? just curious, thanks |

Whenever I take Dunk as my smiter, he seems to take a lot of ectos... :/
I believe you can see items drop from enemies, (distinguishable items like dyes specifically) but when they hit the ground they do not make a sound / appear. This is probably due to the heroes snatching the drops :P |

From the link you posted from the official wiki:
Loot scaling was introduced in the April 20, 2007 game update. The amount of drops you get are scaled to your party size and to the speed at which enemies are killed. The following are affected by loot scaling: Common (white) items Gold The following are exempt from loot scaling: Skill Tomes Scrolls Dye Rare materials, such as Ectoplasm Gemstones from the Domain of Anguish All other rare (gold) items All unique (green) items Special event items Obviously, rare (gold) items and ectos are exempt acording to the official wiki. Heroes do account for drops and do not affect the scaling.

Any item that drops from a monster can drop assigned to any party member in range (not greyed out on the party menu). If the party includes heroes and/or henchmen, they can get a drop assigned to them. You won't see the drop show up on the ground like you would a human, but that is because heroes/hench have automatic/instant pick up. So if you are farming something in UW that drops Ecto, and using 1 hero, you have a 50/50 chance that if the monster drops an ecto, that you would get it. So if the monster has a 5% chance to drop an ecto, you would have a 2.5% chance of getting one (with 1 hero with you).
Gold that is dropped by monsters is equally divided by all party members, even if they are out of range. This includes heroes and hench. If you want proof, this is an EASY thing to test. Take 1 hero with you, and go kill anything until gold is dropped. If that was a pile of 8 gold, and you have 1 hero, you will end up with 4 gold in your inventory. |

Magma is correct.
If you don't want heroes/henchies eating delicious drops like ectos and golds, you can either go by yourself (the "good" drops wouldn't be scaled) or take other real people. P.S. Is it really necessary to end questions with, "?!?!?!?!??!!?!"? :P

The old confusion over loot scaling vs. drop allocation, eh?
Loot scaling affects how much loot (i.e. anything not on the above list) drops. Drop allocation decides who gets whatever drops - you, Lina, Koss - whoever. Who said heroes don't get stuff? Go out with a party of heroes/henchmen and pick up a pile of (let's say) 100g. Notice how much you get? Not 100g, is it?

As Snoggy says, there's two issues here - one to do with "scaling" and one to do with allocation.
When it comes to allocation, drops are randomly allocated to party members. It doesn't matter whether the party member is a henchmen, a hero, or a human, they have the same chance to get a drop. (Which makes me wonder why people look for "leechers" when heros or henchies would do as well.) So, in Magma's example, you would have a 2.5% chance of getting the drop whether the other party member is a hero, henchman, or human. Loot scaling, affects the total amount of drops, not how they are distributed. Iirc, if you go into an area with a group of 8, you will get a certain overall number of drops. If you go into the same area with only 4 people, you will not get the same total number of drops, but then again, you will not get only half either. You will get some ratio in-between which is "scaled" depending upon the group size and the speed with which you kill things. If you go into that same area solo, you won't get all the drops, but you won't get only 1/8th either - again it will be "scaled". So, the OP's post isn't exactly clear, but the end result is that any party members affect loot scaling and all party members can be assigned drops. It doesn't matter whether they're human or not. |

Heroes and hench do not decrease droprate. If you take a team of 8 real people vs a team of H/H the droprate should be the same. People only think H/H "steal" drops because they do not see the item dropping for the hero with an assigned name.

And don't forget the anti farming code... That's gonna come into play if you hit the same area over and over.
